Where are YOU?

Have you ever gotten lost in the turbulence of your own mind; How about the trenches of your own soul? Well……..you’re not the only one. Walking in sin causes spiritual death and separation from God. Let’s look at what happened to Adam and Eve and find out why they sinned and how that sin caused their death or spiritual separation from God.

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Genesis 3:9

Genesis 3:3-10

Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

When God has to ask you “Where art thou”? That means that you’re not in the place where he called you!! Where did God call Adam? God called Adam to a place of obedience. Adam was out of place when God asked him “where art thou”! What do I mean by this? Adam was busy walking in disobedience through Eve. Remember Adam and Eve were “bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh” so they were one.

Genesis 2:21-24

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Since they were one, whatever one did that meant the other did as well because you function as one. In God’s eyes they were one. This also means that if you’re married and your spouse does something out of the will of God both of you will suffer the consequences not just your spouse.

In the physical, Eve disobeyed Adam which was ultimately disobeying God. She was the one with the cavalier attitude. Take a spiritual magnifying glass and look deeper at it in the spiritual realm, Adam was the one that disobeyed God because Adam (1) Was head of the household (2) Adam was given the commandment not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God had already established order in the home. Adam was the head even though Adam and Eve were one. The head of the household has the ultimate authority in the home.

Genesis 2:16-17

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

For in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die! This type of death was not a physical one but rather a spiritual one. Spiritual death means you’ve become separated from God. This means that their disobedience was a sin and sin caused their death.

Let’s beg the question WHY? Why did Eve have an ear to hear what the serpent was saying? There’s several things that we can discern here. Eve was rebellious, she didn’t respect authority, and she couldn’t see spiritually. Why? Because her sin had blinded her from the truth. If she could see she would have seen and known the serpent as he really was; cunning, sly and treacherous. Her disrespect of her God given authority caused her to blindly follow a counterfit authority and role model.

Humble yourself and respect the person that has been given authority of your life. Obedience will save you from a LIFE of DEATH. Yes, that’s right, a LIFE of DEATH. Even though Adam and Eve experienced spiritual death they were still alive in the natural to walk out their punishment of being separated from God and having all the benefits of having a relationship with God.

Here’s something I’d like us to ponder: Was Adam and Eve the first church as well as the first family? Since having a family is a person’s first ministry, I would go out on a limb to say Adam and Eve was the first inFORMal church or first form of a church.

Where are YOU?

Are you busy experiencing LIFE in DEATH or are you carefully obeying God’s will? Be very careful for the days are evil. Ephesians Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

We live in a society where anything goes. RIGHT is seen as WRONG and WRONG as seen as RIGHT. Be diligent to study the word of God daily.

II Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Be sure to pray for forgiveness for any sin of omission or commission that you may have committed. Worship and pray daily.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you would like to; say this prayer aloud: Lord I ask you to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and wash me white as snow. This I ask in Jesus name amen.
